In June 2005 I had an exhibition Relative Space in the Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely, Co. Wicklow, along with my daughter, Sarah Browne, who is a painter. As a result we were offered Residencies at Cill Rialaig Artists Retreat in Co. Kerry. It is a beautiful area in the South West of Ireland.
The weather was fantastic for nearly the whole 2 weeks. This was my view at breakfast-time.
Due to the exceptional weather we had a strange 'mystical' fog one evening.
Each artist has their own cottage/studio. The accommodation is simple, but cosy. This is the sleeping loft - watch your head!
View from the loft down to the sitting room/studio space
Another view of the studio - the overhead natural light is excellent.
There is also a well equiped ceramics studio with a number of kilns available. This studio is based at the Gallery and Cafe about 3 Kms from the village. Artists must bring their own materials and portable equipment. If coming from abroad materials can be ordered from a number of suppliers. Information is available from the Centre.
There are many lovely beaches in the area.
It is well worth exploring, as there are many ruins in the area.
Artists are asked to leave a piece of work which is exhibited in the Gallery. The sale of artworks help to run the Centre. If you are interested in applying for a Residency contact:
